City and Metropolitan Transportation Authority Officials to Host a Ground Breaking for the Next Phase of the City?s Arterial System Finance Program
The City of Westlake Village is hosting a ground breaking ceremony for the next phase of the City?s Arterial System Finance Program (ASFP). The ground breaking will occur on April 13 at 9 am at the northeast corner of the Lindero Canyon/Agoura Roads intersection.
Construction of the next phase of the City?s Arterial System Finance Program (ASFP), a long-range improvement program initiated years ago to improve traffic flow along the Lindero Canyon Road corridor from Agoura Road to Thousand Oaks Boulevard, recently commenced with work at the Agoura Road/Lindero Canyon Road intersection. This phase will include installation of two new turn lanes on Agoura Road involving an additional eastbound left turn lane along with a westbound right turn lane, and installation of a new Lindero Canyon Road southbound right turn lane. Coupled with new video detection units to replace the existing roadway loop detectors, these improvements will enhance the overall operational characteristics and traffic flow at the intersection. As Mayor Ned E Davis noted, ?In addition to increasing intersection capacity, this project will improve cyclist safety by providing dedicated bike lanes and video detection.?
Initial work on this phase occurred in early March with the clearing of shrubbery and trees in the construction area. This will be followed by the installation of new signal poles and modifications to, and expansion of, the existing bridge over the flood control channel at the northeast corner of the intersection which will provide sufficient room for the new dedicated westbound Agoura Road right turn lane. Finally, the east and west medians will be reconfigured to provide the additional eastbound left turn lane. This $1.6 million phase is slated to be completed early next fall in October. The City has been allocated approximately $9.5 million through the Metropolitan Transportation Authorities Measure R Program for the entire ASFP Program.?Metro is proud to have been part of this collaboration with the City of Westlake Village by contributing $9.5 million through Measure R funding toward the City?s ASFP Program,” said Metro board Chair and LA County Supervisor Don Knabe. “This is the first of 18 Measure R Highway projects that Metro will begin this year, as we work to improve mobility and sustainability. Today?s groundbreaking is an example of Metro?s commitment in accomplishing these goals through projects across the region.”
Westlake Village City Councilmembers will join officials from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to commemorate this phase and make brief remarks regarding the project.
