This morning, the news broke that Robert Slavin, Mayor Pro-Tem for City of Westlake Village, will not be seeking re-election in the fall. After “pulling papers” (the step before filing one’s candidacy), it surprised many that Slavin isn’t running.
Westlake Revelations spoke to Bob this afternoon, and he said this…
“After careful reflection, and even after I pulled papers, I realized that it’s time for me to step back. After 12 years, and 3 terms, including twice as Mayor — it’s all about the time I have available to contribute, and what I personally want to commit to for the next four years. I’m very much looking forward to the next few months. I plan to be as involved as ever through the end of my term, and do the best job that I can, just as I always have. At the end of the day, however, there will be an opportunity for someone to step into my place — and that’s part of the natural cycle of a healthy city.”
There are three seats up for election come November.

Incumbent Mark Rutherford
Challenger Brad Halpern
Challenger Don Rosenberg
Challenger Kimberly Horner
are expected to run, and there may be more. As a result of one incumbent (Slavin) not running for re-election, the filing date for filing will be extended to August 14th.
