Las Virgenes Unified School District Names Jim Klein
As its New Chief Technology Officer

Following a nationwide search, Dr. Dan Stepenosky, Superintendent of Schools, is proud to announce the appointment of Jim Klein to the position of CTO. Mr. Klein, a seasoned professional in educational technology, will begin his new position with the District effective November 18, 2013. As Chief Technology Officer, Klein will be charged with the task of guiding LVUSD at a critical time in the District’s history, as it makes the transition to the Common Core State Standards and prepares for new, adaptive assessments.

Amassing a wealth of knowledge and experience in both the private and public sectors, Jim Klein has earned a reputation as an innovative education technology leader in his role as Director of Information Services and Technology at Saugus Union School District. For seventeen years, he has served the various stakeholders at Saugus Union, envisioning and successfully implementing an ambitious district-wide infrastructure, Voice-over-IP and digital media distribution program. He has custom-tailored technology initiatives to further enrich student learning and educator feedback. Prior to his tenure with Saugus Union, Klein owned and operated a $2 million per year computer center.

Mr. Klein is an acclaimed leader and innovator, garnering a host of awards from education industry experts. Among his many honors, Jim has been distinguished as T.H.E. Journal “Innovator”, NetworkWorld “Renovator of the Year”, a National School Boards Association “Twenty to Watch” Educator, Los Angeles County Office of Education’s “Digital Voice” Award and has more recently been named the ACSA “Technology Administrator of the Year” for Los Angeles County.

Superintendent Dr. Dan Stepenosky said, “I’m thrilled to welcome Jim to the team. Las Virgenes has made tremendous strides in its advancement of technology throughout the District. Jim will help us take the next step in more fully integrating technology to support innovative instruction and to enhance student learning.”

Mr. Klein’s extensive experience and proven success with digital learning and 1:1 student technology will play a critical role in the District’s future plans. “I’ve already had an incredible seventeen years in education technology, ” said Klein, “and I can’t wait to get started on my next seventeen at Las Virgenes. I am confident that my demonstrated passion and success with programs that empower both students and teachers to transform the learning environment align well with the goals and vision of Las Virgenes’ leadership team. I’m thrilled to be joining an incredible group of educators at what is clearly one of the best school districts in the nation.”

Las Virgenes Unified School District serves more than 11,000 students from Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills and the Los Angeles County portion of Westlake Village.
