This afternoon, LVMWD put out information about the changes in the taste and odor of water.
Some customers at the west end of the LVMWD service area (more or less to the West of Kanan) may notice a change in the taste & odor of their tap water, which is caused by the effects of algae in Las Virgenes Reservoir. This is a temporary condition and the water remains safe to consume.
At the beginning of October, LVMWD stops drawing water from Las Virgenes Reservoir above Three Springs. This shifts the District’s water use, entirely, to water provided by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. As a result, within a day or two, the taste and odor in the LVMWD water system will return to normal. Customers should be mindful that, at all times, LVMWD tap water is safe to consume.
