The City of Westlake Village has opened nominations for the the annual Citizen and Youth of the Year awards. Nominations are made by the community. Youth receive a $500 scholarship. Adult recipients will see a $500 donation made to a charity they select.

THE CITY OF WESTLAKE VILLAGE IS ACCEPTING NOMINATIONS FOR THE CITY’S ANNUAL CITIZEN AND YOUTH RECOGNITION PROGRAMS

The City of Westlake Village is now accepting nominations for the Annual Citizen and Youth Recognition Programs. The purpose of the Citizen Recognition Program is to identify and recognize outstanding individuals who have made a difference in enhancing and improving the quality of life in the community. The purpose of the Youth Recognition Program is to identify and recognize an outstanding youth, both on an individual and organizational basis, encompassing elementary to high school ages.

Individuals nominated must be residents of Westlake Village (Los Angeles County) and recognized for outstanding contributions toward the betterment of the community in a number of areas, such as academics, music, art, sports, valor and community services.

The nomination period for both recognition programs runs until 5:00 pm on Thursday, February 28, 2013. Award recipients will be recommended by the Cultural Recreation Committee and approved by the full City Council. Last year’s winners included Sybil Nisenholz, who was recognized under the Citizen Award category, and Danny Fischer and

Kelsey McLaughlin, who both received the Youth Recognition Award. A donation of $500 will be made to a charity selected by the Citizen of the Year. The recipient of the Youth of the Year award will receive a $500 scholarship. Winners will be announced at a City Council meeting and names will be placed on a plaque prominently displayed at the City Council Chambers.
