CITY TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING ON THE DRAFT CONCEPTUAL DESIGNS OF THE FUTURE WESTLAKE VILLAGE COMMUNITY PARK
The City of Westlake Village will hold a special meeting of the City Council?s Park Ad Hoc Committee at the Westlake Village City Hall on Wednesday, June 2 at 7:00 p.m. to review draft conceptual plans of the future Westlake Village Community Park. The public is invited to attend and provide comments on the draft designs. The City has been holding a series of outreach workshops during the month of May to receive input from the community on the location and design of the above-ground elements to be included in the new Community Park. A final draft conceptual plan will be presented to the Westlake Village City Council at their meeting on July 28, 2010.
The site of the future Community Park will also include YMCA facilities which together will provide both indoor and outdoor health and well-being activities for children, teens, older adults and families. Located on the northside of Thousand Oaks Blvd., west of Lindero Canyon Road in Westlake Village, the proposed master plan for the 18-acre site includes a full-service YMCA facility, and eight acres of City sports fields along with various other recreational amenities. Parking and ingress and egress to the site will be shared by the City and the YMCA.
The development of this overall project is being constructed in two separate phases. Phase I involving the construction of the master pad commenced in July 2009, and the grading and drainage portion of this work was recently completed. The remaining components of this phase include the construction of the underground utilities; pump stations; slope landscaping and irrigation; and access and maintenance roads. Phase I development is expected to be completed in early 2011.
Phase II of the project includes the separate development of the above-ground City park improvements and the separate YMCA facility. The City affiliated non-profit Westlake Village Community Foundation and the Triunfo YMCA will be undertaking a necessary capital fundraising campaign to offset the separate park and YMCA improvement costs for this second phase. Although the timetable for this phase of construction has not been established, it is anticipated that the projects may be constructed in phases over several years as funds become available.
