Synopsis

This Friday, the City of Westlake Village kicks off its 6th season of its TGIF series. The schedule this year includes 7 events that take place at either the Westlake Village Civic Center or Berniece Bennett Park. Full schedule below.

Hosted in the past by the Westlake Village Junior Women’s Club, this year’s 4th of July event will be hosted now by the City of Westlake Village. Starting with the Rotary Club sponsored pancake breakfast at 7:30am, the parade will start at 9:45am. The festivities continue as the parade feeds into Berniece Bennett Park.

This year, there will also be a U.S. Flag Retirement Ceremony by Boy Scout Troop #752. For those that don’t know, the U.S. Flag Code states, “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.” A variety of organizations, from the U.S. Army to the Boy Scouts have ceremonies to properly retire a flag.

4th of July Parade

Each year, Residents of all ages are invited to participate in the 40th Annual Westlake Village 4th of July Parade. The event begins at the former Westlake Village Medical Center Property located at 4415 Lakeview Canyon Road.

The festivities kick-off at 7:30 am with a pancake breakfast sponsored by the Rotary Club of Westlake Village. The parade will begin at 9:45 am. Parade participants are asked to begin lining up at 9:30 am. The parade follows a short 4-block route to Berniece Bennett Park located in the First Neighborhood of Westlake Village. The parade can be enjoyed one of two ways: 1) decorate your bicycle, scooter, stroller, or wagon in patriotic colors and join-in on the fun; or 2) line the parade route along Agoura Road between Lakeview Canyon Road and Greengate Court to cheer for the parade participants.

The fun continues at the park with a dramatic U.S. Flag Retirement Ceremony performed by Boy Scout Troop #752. After the ceremony, residents can enjoy inflatable activities, old fashioned park games, music, and free popsicles and water. The event ends at 12 noon.

The parade is offered by the City of Westlake Village and is open to the public at large. For more information, please call Westlake Village City Hall at 818-706-1613.
