Typically, Cabrillo Music Theatre (the resident musical theatre production company of the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza) holds their shows spanning two weekends in the larger, 1800-seat Fred Kavli Theater.

This year, however, Cabrillo is experimenting with having more shows in the smaller, 400-seat Scherr theater. More shows in a smaller theater ends up allowing for better options for theatergoers — but it works best with the right kind of show. Cabrillo has selected “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” — with 15 shows starting tomorrow (January 29th – February 14th, 2016).

In the words of Lewis Wilkenfeld, Cabrillo’s Artistic Director, using the Scherr “gives people a way to be more intimate with a show — with every seat seeing facial expressions, slapstick and of course, comedic nuances that our performers excel at. In a show like ‘Forum,’ the audience is so close to the action, they’re reaction becomes a part of the show.”
