Introduction
The straw poll was specifically to see whether people liked the Sunrise concept, and if so, what they liked about it. And, if they didn’t want it, what they might like to see in its place.
We created the poll, contacted all 19 Home Owners’ Associations in Westlake Village, and invited their residents to take part, I sent out to the large Westlake Revelations mailing list, and I know that the invitations got circulated fairly well.
Furthermore, I wanted us all to see not only what the residents of the City of Westlake Village wanted, but also those in the surrounding area … so these are included, but broken out in the results.
And, to keep from ballot stuffing or other nonsense, we put security measures in place to avoid issues, and catch them.
On to the results…
The main question was a yes/no/maybe question about the Sunrise Development.
For those that live in the city of Westlake Village:
- 26.4% said they like the Sunrise proposal as is, and support it
- 13.5% said they would like independent living on this site, but not in this way or this size/scale
- 60.1% said they would like something completely different from the Sunrise proposal
For everyone in Westlake Village and the surrounding areas:
- 45.5% like the Sunrise proposal as is
- 9.4% would like independent living on this site, but not in this way
- 45.1% said they would like something completely different
Additional Questions
Now, beyond the big question — there’s a number of other pieces of information. All the results are in your packets, and for everyone to see on the web site at https://westlakerevelations.com/
We asked people that if Sunrise were to be built, what were the important pieces to them. It’s easiest to compare the positive answers on this type of question, but the full results are below.
When we asked people for what kinds of apartments they’d like to see, Independent Living and Assisted Living each scored in the 60-65% range, while Nursing Home was approximately 47%.
Every one of the questions about the services that Sunrise offered scored over 50% for agree/strongly agree, with the sole exception of Hair and Nail Salon at 43%
We asked people that if Sunrise were NOT built, what were the important needs to them. Again, it’s easiest to compare the positive answers. If we limit the votes to just those that live in the City of Westlake Village, the strongest contenders are:
- 69% want a community center
- 63% want a Passive Park
- 54% want a public garden
- 49% want a Town Center / Combination Property
- 45% want a Exploratorium, Museum, etc.
