The rules of building the car prohibit the modification of the steering mechanism. While many designers with larger kids have designed a car with a seat further back, and wider, some would like to consider modifying the steering rod to make it longer.
Provided that the steering works well, and is safe, we’re approving the use of a “u-joint” such as this:
is ok. Again, it must work well, and be safe — but if it does that, it is approved as a change to the original design.
As always, be careful of any design that makes the design more top-heavy, and therefore more likely to turn over. AND, that the driver has good visibility not just to the left and right, but in front. Both of these could be significant problems, and therefore not safe.
