For 30 years I have owned a home and managed a medical practice in Westlake Village. I have been lucky enough to watch this semi rural area grow into a community that we all enjoy. We were smart enough in 1981 to become a city so that we could control our own destiny. According to the recent city survey, people believe that we have done a very good job.
Our city has developed a good composite of residential structures, business structures, parks and open space. According to city documents, Westlake Village is 51% open space, 24% residential and 9% industrial and commercial properties.
Unlike many cities in California we are financially sound and running in the black. Our city is still a village, yet we have a strong business community providing us with the income necessary to maintain and improve our surroundings.
If I were elected to the council, I would like to maintain the control over land use in order to preserve the â??City in the Countryâ? sense of community, and the balance between residential, business and open space. Future projects brought before the council should be reviewed individually, rated on their merits and their impact, and allow for input from the community. As a council member I would represent not myself, not the council, but you the voters, when making decisions.
It seems that there is a strong consensus in our city that we are in need of a community center. People would like a gathering place that would increase the community cohesiveness. They see a need for a place for concerts, activities, and events of community interest. Because this is high on the list of priorities expressed by our citizens, I would put this high on the Councilâ??s agenda.
I would also like to foster a community wellness initiative that would include an increase in walking, hiking and biking trails, activities that encourage healthy living, a return of the Farmerâ??s Market, and improved emergency medical response services. I believe residents of all ages would benefit from park improvements, the acquisition of remaining open space, and more access to recreational programs. I would also be an advocate for better access to technology in our schools, better cell phone reception, and improved lighting of streets.
Since community programs are funded by our local businesses which provide our strong economic base, I would encourage cooperation with the business sector by continuing to be a business friendly city that values community input.
My family has benefited from living in this wonderful city. My children have attended the local schools; my business has been successful. I feel it is time to give back to my community. Because of my knowledge of the city, my experience in running a business and my willingness to listen to your concerns, I think I would make a good candidate for the City Council.

If elected to the city council, I would promote the building of a community center, a gathering place for concerts, activities, and events of community interest. I’d advocate better access to technology in our schools, better cell phone reception, and improved lighting of streets.
