In the middle of the night on Christmas morning, a Westlake Village home was burglarized while the residents were home. Malibu/Lost Hills Deputies got a tip from the victim about their iPad indicating its location was ata nearby home. Deputies responded to the location, arrested the suspect. Working with San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputies, deputies were able to solve another burglary and recover 40 stolen children’s Christmas presents — in time for them to be returned to the kids in Vista, California.

Malibu/Lost Hills Station deputies arrested Patrick Krewson, 20, for Burglary and Receiving Stolen Property after their investigation led them to the recovery of 40 stolen Christmas presents in Vista, California.

On Sunday, December 25, 2011, at approximately 0330 hours, a home in Westlake Village was burglarized while the victim was home. The victim was awakened by noise, confronted the intruder, and chased him a short distance. The victim lost sight of the suspect and responding deputies were unable to locate him. An Apple iPad, among other items, was taken from the victim’s home.

Later that morning, the victim called the station and told deputies his iPad was “pinging” from a nearby home. Deputies responded to the location, located the iPad, and arrested the suspect. Malibu/Lost Hills deputies and detectives conducted a thorough follow-up investigation, which led them to information regarding a burglary which occurred in Vista, California, on December 22, 2011.

Additional Details:

Two flat-screen televisions, a laptop computer, and more than 40 Christmas presents, belonging to children, were stolen in the Vista Burglary. Malibu/Lost Hills deputies worked quickly with San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputies to connect the suspect in Westlake Village to the Vista Burglary. After an outstanding investigation involving excellent inter-agency cooperation and communication, all of the Vista stolen property was recovered.

When Malibu/Lost Hills deputies notified the Vista victim that her Christmas presents had been located in time to give them to the children for Christmas, she began to cry. One of the cooperating parties involved in the investigation said to Malibu/Lost Hills Deputy Frank Brower upon hearing about the recovered gifts, “Deputy Brower, you saved Christmas!”
