Last night, the night of Mar 20th, there was a murder in the First Neighborhood section of Westlake Village. The shooting took place at a party in the 31000 block of Kentfield Court (off of Middlegate Road).

Reportedly, the suspect and victim (both invited to a party) got into a fight, and insults were traded amongst some at the party. The suspect (whose name is not being released at this time), left the party with his wife and then later returned, brandished a knife and threatened others. Ultimately, the suspect pulled out a handgun, shot the victim in the torso. The victim was ultimately taken to the hospital via helicopter and then later died at the hospital.

Others at the party forcibly detained the suspect until LA County Sheriff Deputies arrived and took him into custody. The call to the Sheriff was placed at 11:13pm and deputies were on the scene at 11:17pm. The suspect was taken to the hospital and treated with minor injuries.

The suspect is a Westlake Village resident. The victim is a resident of Alta Dena.

This is believed to be the first reported homicide in Westlake Village. This was NOT a random act of violence (e.g., like a robbery or drive by). There was some history involved between the parties. “In my opinion, the safety of the community has not been compromised nor changed.” said Scott Chew, Lt. Lost Hills/Malibu Station, LA County Sheriff, and local resident of Westlake Village.
