The Las Virgenes Education Foundation announced today the line up for the LVUSD Benefit Concert. Held at the Fred Kavli Theater in the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza on Friday, February 27, 2009, the concert will highlight not only LVUSD students and artwork, but the talents of Tommy Shaw (of the band Styx), Michael McDonald (formerly of the Doobie Brothers), and the band Venice.

TOMMY SHAW OF STYX THROWS HIS GUITAR IN THE RING along with MICHAEL McDONALD, performing with VENICE and student musicians from the LVUSD in “Benefit for the Arts” to support LVUSD arts programs.
THOUSAND OAKS, CA – Tommy Shaw famed singer and hit songwriter of the band Styx, will be joining forces with international recording artist Michael McDonald, formerly of the Doobie Brothers, performing with the band Venice and student musicians from the Las Virgenes Unified School District for the “Benefits for the Arts” concert at the Fred Kavli Theater in the Thousand Oaks Civics Arts Plaza Friday, February 27, 2009, beginning at 8:00p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for an Elementary Art Show and Middle School Musical groups.
Tickets start at just $30, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the Las Virgenes Education Foundation (LVEF) providing critical funding to keep art programs alive in local area public schools. The concert is produced by Artists For The Arts Foundation, a non-profit organization whose efforts have already raised nearly half a million dollars for public school districts in Southern California.
“We can’t believe the energy this event is generating within the music community. It’s infectious. Civic and business leaders in the community are coming forward with sponsorships and offers of support” says Executive Director Jamie Alcroft of the LVEF. With professional and aspiring talents sharing the stage in a collaborative performance, the event promises to be the ideal showcase for the caliber of arts programs the non-profit Foundations strive to preserve.
The middle school jazz combos will be performing in the lobby alongside a LVUSD Elementary school art exhibition. This evening will establish the students themselves as a force in the local arts fundraising community. A live auction will also be held during the show.
